Halp uz Bish-up, Wee R Catlik

Seems our new Presiding Bishopette didn't take long to again stick her foot in her mouth. The latest would be her comments from an interview in the New York Times that reads in part:

• Bishop Jefferts Schori conjectured that the Episcopal Church’s now only 2.2 million faithful “used to be larger percentagewise”. However now, she says, “Episcopalians tend to be better-educated and tend to reproduce at lower rates than some other denominations. Roman Catholics and Mormons both have theological reasons for producing lots of children.”
• The response provoked this query from NYT reporter Deborah Solomon: “Episcopalians aren’t interested in replenishing their ranks by having children?”
• “No. It’s probably the opposite,” responded Jefferts Schori. “We encourage people to pay attention to the stewardship of the earth and not use more than their portion.”
• However, Jefferts Schori’s assertion that Catholics, Mormons and those with large families have more children simply because they are not “better educated” has provoked criticism from Catholics, who point out that while the Bishop, a former oceanographer who has worked with “octopuses and squids”, advocates a diminishing population for her church, it would not be something she would view as healthy for marine populations of squids and octopi.

At this point I must wonder if the Pbp. is actually working to undermine relationships with England and Anglicans worldwide. Were I Roman Catholic (whom I understand ArchBishop Williams is working with in an effort to begin reestablishing bonds of communion) I would be upset by her statements, to say the least.

Down here in Texas we're growing our numbers and a goodly portion of that growth is coming from efforts in the Hispanic and other communities that might be considered "educationally disadvantaged." I would hope and believe our Diocese is trying to be respectful of all its members regardless of their orientations, race or social position. Sure, we don't always agree and sometimes our discussions do become heated; but I don't see us willfully trying to insult others with whom we disagree. And at the end of the day we all still sit down at the same table.

I had hopes Pbp. Schori would work towards reconciliation; however, it almost appears that she's making an effort to "piss off" anyone other than the far left wing of the Church. If so, one must believe she's having some measure of success.

He's baack

Surgery went very well.

Have been released to drive, walk with only a cane and am now back at work.

Modern medicine is unbelievable in it's abilities. No doubt some of the ease with which I went through the procedure is a result of the Surgeon and hospital. Have to believe prayers on my behalf had a lot to do with it also. Under any circumstance I woke up feeling better than when I went in and have continued to feel better daily.

Will get around to a new post in the next few days as I'm trying to get caught up on everything that lapsed while I was recovering.
